i've been thinking about doing this for a long time.....what has held me back is having to admit that i could have done a better job raising my two girls.......tried my best, but with the passing of time and reflection i now know what i would have done differently....here it goes.......
this blog is meant to make you THINK.....
what you do with this info is up to you.....
I wish i had taught my kids the art of conversation
it is not something you're born with....as with everything, it has to be learned.....
one can learn it by listening to others make small talk.....
by observing my husband and a dear friend i am now able to take my skills to
a higher level....i just wish i had known and shared it with my kids when they were growing up
so here are some example...
when the kids got home from school i would always ask.....wait for it...
"how was school?" very inventive, right???? wrong!!!
the kids would respond with the standard answer ....."fine"....
that was their way of saying ...."leave me alone i want to forget about it......"
here is what i should have said..
"tell me one fun thing you did today"
"teach me something you learned in History class"
"What did you eat for lunch"
"tell me something that made you happy or shocked to learn"
the point is i should not have let them off the hook
i should have continued to ask questions until they
realized that i was not going away.....so they might as well
talk to me.....
i believe life is just a series of habits..... I were in the habit of not
asking too many questions ...
so it will take time...to develop a new habit....for both of us....
